What are the benefits of MetrixInsight for CVAD compared to Citrix Director?

Citrix Director is a great tool for providing day to day end user support with real-time health information about the infrastructure and user sessions. However, there are a few important differences between the capabilities of Citrix Director and our CVAD management pack for SCOM.

  • Citrix Director only provides information that is available within the CVAD monitoring database. This means it does not provide information of the whole Citrix infrastructure stack. It lacks monitoring for StoreFront and Provisioning Services which are crucial tiers in a common CVAD stack.

    Furthermore, it does not monitor the Windows Server Operating Systems, Hypervisors, Physical Hardware, Storage and Network components your CVAD stack components and user workloads are running on. Nor does it monitor infrastructure services like Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and File Services which CVAD heavily depends on.
  • With SCOM you can monitor a complete chain in your IT infrastructure. As your Citrix infrastructure is very dependent on generic infrastructure services like Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Network, Virtualization Platforms, Hosting Hardware and Storage, it doesn’t make sense to only monitor the Citrix part. With our management pack we enable SCOM to visualize and monitor the Citrix parts within your IT infrastructure chain. Our pack integrates with other management packs as well, like Active Directory, Microsoft SQL and Windows Server. In this way you get a Single-Pane-of-Glass view of how your whole CVAD stack is running and performing as it goes beyond the Citrix technology components.

  • With SCOM you can have an unlimited retention time regarding performance collection metrics. This enables you to baseline and do trend analyses over time spans you require for your organization. Citrix Director only provides a maximum history reporting of 7 days for Standard license customers and 1 month for Advanced license customers.

  • SCOM combined with our Management Pack enables you to trigger Event Management processes based on events that occur within your Citrix stack. For example, based on events that occur within your Citrix Stack you can automatically create and assign an incident record within your ITSM system (like Microsoft System Center Service Manager or TopDesk).
